LIQUIDITY KNOWLEDGE BASE
Treasury General Account
Treasury's operating cash balance at the Fed.
Definition
The Treasury General Account, or TGA, is the U.S. Treasury's checking account at the Federal Reserve.
Liquidity Rule
TGA down usually adds liquidity because Treasury cash moves into the banking system. TGA up usually drains liquidity because private cash is pulled into Treasury's Fed account.
Crypto Impact
A large TGA drawdown can support risk appetite if it reaches reserves and market liquidity. A large rebuild can pressure high-beta assets.
Bullish Setup
TGA falling while reserves are stable or rising.
Bearish Setup
TGA rising sharply during heavy bill or coupon settlement weeks.
Common Misunderstanding
A high TGA level is not automatically bearish; the weekly change matters more for near-term flow.

TGA down = liquidity add; TGA up = liquidity drain, all else equal.
